RATS Win Big!

Congratulations to all those who swam in the second round of he Rother League on Saturday 6th June at Fareham Leisure Centre.

All of the swimmers swam very well with only three DQ’s throughout the whole evening.

At the start of the gala Paul had said that we should have had anticipations of coming in the middle, like we did in the first round (4th place). Unfortunately the speaker system was not very loud and was receiving lots of background interference so the scores weren’t very easy to understand but it was just possible to tell that we weren’t in last place.

As the gala went on the events were passing by extraordinarily quickly so in what seemed like five minutes the scores were announced with only two events before the squadron.

As the scores were being read out the tension was building, 6th went by, 3rd went by. By this point it was unbelievable to think that we might be in 3rd place. As it turned out the other teams had fallen behind meaning that we had powered our way into joint 1st with I.O.W sc.

The scores depended on the final event, the squadron. The swimmers were set, all 10 people lined up behind their allocated starting block. The starting signal went and we were started off by our 8 year old girls.

As the last swimmers were coming in we could see that we might have a chance of winning the squadron, something that I personally can’t ever remember doing. However our fate wasn’t to be, we were beaten at the post, we rounded off the gala with a 2nd place finish in the squadron.

Even though we were beaten we accomplished our goal, we beat I.O.W sc, we still had a chance of winning round 2 of the Rother League. All the swimmers were waiting on pool deck in a tight group waiting for the final announcement, waiting and waiting forever there was a rumble and the speakers spluttered into life the scores were here.

The final scores of round 2 of the Rother league were:
6th       Ringwood
5th      Eastleigh and Oakland’s
4th       Gosport
3rd       Andover
2nd        Istle of Wight
1st       Romsey and Totton

As a whole the gala was a huge success and has hopefully been a morale lift for all our swimmers and will hopefully encourage the people who don’t swim very often to swim and the others to train harder in the future.

 SMiles.

Welcome
