Dear RAT’s

I would like to thank you all for your kind wishes on my leaving the swimming club after over 20 years.
Many thanks for the leaving card and voucher that you gave me, it was really unexpected.
It will be put to good use for something in our new home to remind me of my time at the swimming club.

I started helping and then teaching at the swimming club in the late 1990’s.
Having brought our children to RAT’s to swim only to realise that Steve Harrison was the coach, whom, I went to school with and swam with at Southampton Swimming Club!

Within a few weeks of standing on the balcony I soon became involved. (Or roped in should I say!)
The original plan was to stay just while my children were part of it. In the end having seen so many youngsters go through enjoying it so much and hopefully finding a hobby for life, I didn’t want to let them down, so I stayed on.

Well....Suddenly 20 plus years had slipped by, our daughter had left the club, married and moved to Devon!

It was time for us to take a new direction.
We decided to sell up in Romsey and it is time for us to retire. The decision was made to move to Devon to be closer to our daughter.

So, disappointingly I will not be returning when swimming restarts after the lockdown in the next few weeks.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with everyone at Rat’s and will certainly miss it.
However, I will be coming back to Romsey from time to time so I will call in if we’re around on a Monday evening.
In the meantime I would like to wish you all and the RAT’s swimming club every success for the future.

Best regards

Graham Male ??
