Romsey and Totton swimmers have been competing at the Hampshire County Championships over the last three weekends and while all the swimmers gave their best there are some whose performance deserve to be highlighted.
Best individual performance goes to Harry Collins, his super effort and 4 second PB in the final of the boys 12 years old 100 m Backstroke gained him a bronze medal. Harry was also 4th on 50 Fly and 50 Back and 6th in the 100 Freestyle.
Swimming in his first ever individual county championships in the 11 year- old boy’s races was Ed Greenaway who finished a very creditable 5th on 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke and 8th on 50 Backstroke. Harry and Ed were joined by Lucas Perks and Oscar Ravenscroft to finish a superb 6th place in the 12 years and under Freestyle relay as well as 8th place in the Medley relay.
The busiest Romsey and Totton swimmer throughout the championships was Amelia Lambert she qualified for and swam in 10 events in the 12 - year old girl’s age group, as well as 5 relays. Her highest placed finishes were 7th on 1500m and 800m Freestyle and 8th on 200 Breaststroke. Amelia also stepped up to swim in the girls under 16 Medley Relay as last minute sickness cover, this was a superb effort on Amelia’s part.
Swimming for the first time at the county championships were Izzy Hartwell and Chloe Nash competing in the 13 year- old girl’s 50 Breaststroke and 50 Fly respectively. Izzy claimed 6th place and Chloe 8th.
In the older age groups Daniel Williams swam in the 15 - years age group finishing 7th in the 200 Backstroke and 8th in the finals of both 50 and 100 Backstroke all in personal best times. Jay Turner competing in the 16-years age group came 6th in the finals of 50 and 100 Breaststroke and 7th on the 200 and following a significant period of injury Emily Brine returned to compete with a 7th place in the 200 Breaststroke.
Tabatha Hall and Imani Payne also competed in individual races finishing just outside the final places, it was in fact Imani’s first swim at county level. There were a significant number of R&T swimmers making their debut in the relays in addition to those already mentioned congratulations go to Anna Rangecroft, Issy Hall, Freya Long, Lily Cornish, Bethan Heard and Erin Gilson in the 12 and under girls. All will be aiming to qualify as individuals next year. There were even more RATS who achieved county qualification times but due to number limits in races only competed in relays they were Lara Scott, Natasha Mitchell, Rosie Porter, Nataliya Gair, Maddy Sawyer, Fin Weatherdon and Tom Hockley with a little more training they may all be competing next year.
