RATS return to the pool

Romsey and Totton swimmers returned to competition last weekend at the Bournemouth Back to Competition Open Meet. 13 swimmers competed across 59 events the pick of which had to be the boys 100m freestyle where Henry Barker was the fastest 10-year-old, Lucas Perks the fastest 11-year-old and Ed Greenaway the fastest 12-year-old all achieving personal best times. Matt Davies swimming in the same race, was placed third in the multi disability event also in a best time. Henry added to his medal haul with gold medals in 200m Freestyle, with and 11 second pb, and 100m Backstroke as well as silver medals in a further 5 events. Lucas also added to his medal haul with gold medal in 100m Individual Medley, 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. Ed achieved 1st place on 100m backstroke and 2nd on 200m freestyle, 50 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle. Meanwhile Matt was placed 1st in 100m Breaststroke and 2nd in 50m Freestyle. Other medal winning performances came from Imani Payne who gained 1st place in Girls 12 years 50 M Breaststroke. Amelia Lambert gained 4 silvers and one bronze in the 13-year-old girl’s events, she was joined by Anna Rangecroft who achieved 2 silvers in the same age group, with Jay Turner swimming to a silver medal in the 17 years old 100m Breaststroke and Eleanor Oakley who gained a bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly for 15-year-old-girls.

With Bethan Heard swimming personal bests and Issy Slade, Natalya Pemberton-Teer and Freya Long all making their debuts and swimmers faster than they ever had before Romsey and Totton had a superb meet.  Coach Steve  Harrison was delighted with the results commenting ‘ the swimmers had all been working hard since returning from the covid lock down, so I knew we would do well but this is exceptional and a very well done to all swimmers.’
